Customer experience audit

Speed-to-lead audit: how fast the target answers a new customer.

A speed-to-lead audit measures the time between a new customer inquiry and the first meaningful response. Meo Advisors uses agreed, timed mystery shops to record routing, replies and follow-up, then separates that sample from company-wide performance. Public form checks can start the review; broader response-time claims need authorized records.

In short

  • Measure elapsed time from an agreed inquiry event to a defined reply, with automated acknowledgments recorded separately.
  • Unanswered inquiries remain in the readout, with the observation window and channel recorded.
  • The free instant audit covers marketing, search and CX; timed mystery shops are separately scoped, authorized work.

What does speed to lead mean?

Speed to lead is the elapsed time between a new customer inquiry and a defined response. A useful audit names the channel, start event and qualifying reply, and records unanswered inquiries separately so fast acknowledgments do not hide a missing substantive response.

Speed to lead is the time from an agreed customer inquiry event to an agreed qualifying reply.

The customer experience due diligence hub covers the wider journey from finding the target to a confirmed booking or sale. This audit focuses on the response handoff.

How to improve speed to lead?

Improve speed to lead by measuring the current response path, locating routing or ownership gaps, and verifying the agreed fix against the same counting rule. Faster acknowledgments alone do not show that a customer reached someone who could help.

  1. Agree which inquiry channels, locations and operating periods the review will cover.
  2. Record the initial inquiry, automated acknowledgment, substantive reply and any later handoff separately.
  3. Identify unanswered inquiries, unclear ownership and routing steps that need investigation.
  4. Assign an owner to each supported finding and repeat the agreed observation after a fix.

Routing rules, staffing records and internal response logs need authorized access. Public contact details alone cannot establish how the target handles every inquiry.

How to calculate speed to lead?

Calculate speed to lead by subtracting the inquiry timestamp from the timestamp of the qualifying reply. State the time zone, whether elapsed or business time is used, and what counts as a reply before comparing observations.

Report unanswered inquiries alongside reply times. A summary calculated only from answered inquiries can conceal a response gap. Keep channels and operating periods separate when their conditions differ.

Why is speed to lead so important?

Speed to lead matters because response handling is part of whether a potential customer can progress through the target’s journey. Delays and unanswered inquiries identify operating questions, but timing evidence alone cannot establish lost revenue or the financial return from a fix.

A digital marketing audit reviews how potential customers find the target. The response audit follows the next handoff, so visibility and response findings can be assessed together without assuming either caused an outcome.

How is first-reply speed measured in a mystery shop?

A mystery shop measures first-reply speed by making an agreed customer inquiry, recording each response event and applying the predefined counting rule. Timed mystery shops are separately scoped, authorized work; they are not included in the free instant audit for marketing, search and CX.

A mystery shop is a structured test of the target’s customer journey, using real or simulated customers agreed with the sponsor and run within the deal’s NDA.

Mystery shops use real or simulated customers, agreed with the sponsor and run within the deal’s NDA.

Agree contact channels, scenarios, observation windows and permitted follow-up before contact begins. Avoid collecting sensitive customer information. Any consent or outreach question goes to counsel; timing observations do not establish legal compliance.

What does the speed-to-lead audit deliver?

The speed-to-lead audit delivers a response scorecard, dated observations, a prioritized risk register and open questions for the target. Each measure needs a counting rule and owner; a baseline stays blank until it has been measured.

A scorecard is a set of measures with a counting rule, a dated baseline and an owner.
