VODEC is a private, non-profit 501 (c) (3) corporation founded in 1968 in Council Bluffs, Iowa by a group of parents, teachers and elected officials who wanted a community based work program for their loved ones. In the early days we were known as the Vocational Development Center, Inc. Since that time many more parents have approached us to create new programs to serve the needs of their loved ones. Today we serve over 500 individuals with intellectual, developmental, and other disabilities. Although we are still incorporated as Vocational Development Center, Inc, we have added many non-vocational services so today we do business as VODEC. VODEC provides day programs, employment programs, and residential programs that are designed to meet most every need and help individuals and communities reach their full potential through inclusion. Our Mission; ' The mission of VODEC is to provide services to persons with disabilities in order that those persons may live, work and participate in the community in the least restrictive environment to achieve their full potential. The purpose of VODEC is to support and advocate for persons with disabilities so those persons have opportunities to develop to their fullest potential, to interact with society, to experience a sense of belonging and to contribute something of themselves at their own levels of ability.'
